Yves & Ruth, together with Birgitte Regenberg (University of Copenhagen, DK) organize the EMBO Workshop on "The yin and yang of chromosomal and extra-chromosomal DNA" that will take place at the Stefano Franscini Center in Ascona, 17–20 July 2022.

Yves joins the national center of competence in research (NCCR) RNA & Disease as an associate member.

Sandra Bruderer joins the Barral Lab as a PhD student and will work on "Mechanisms of genetic immunity in Saccharomyces cerevisiae".

In Structure, the Barral (IBC) and Steinmetz (PSI) labs provide structural insights in the microtubule-​tracking protein Kar9, revealing how regulation of its dimerization orients the mitotic spindle in dividing cells. This study uncovers Kar9’s relationships to metazoan MACF/ACF7/Shot and PRC1.

Anna & Hassan attended the LMO14 Meeting (Levures, Modèles et Outils) in Strasbourg, France on October 27th-29th where they presented their work with flash-talks.

Michaela Remisovà joins the Barral Lab for her PhD and will be working on "Microtubule plus-​end condensates and nuclear positioning during mating in Saccharomyces cerevisiae".

Irina Ferapontova joins the Kroschewski group as a PhD student and will be working on "Mechanisms of nuclear export of extrachromosomal DNA".

Lina Jäger joins the Barral Group as an apprentice. She will work with Mattia and Shweta on their “Self and non self-DNA recognition in fission yeast” project.

Aliaksandr (Alex) Damenikan joins the Barral Lab for his PhD and will be working on "Mechanisms of cellular memory in Saccharomyces cerevisiae".

A new paper entitled "Structure and regulation of the microtubule plus-end tracking protein Kar9" in collaboration with the Steinmetz group at PSI is in press in Structure
