Elisa carried out her undergraduate studies in Freiburg, Uppsala and Heidelberg. She performed her Diploma thesis in the Group of Bernhard Dobberstein at ZMBH, Heidelberg. During her PhD work in the group of Jan Ellenberg at EMBL, Heidelberg, she discovered her love for the nuclear pore complex and studied its assembly process after mitosis and in interphase. During her postdoc at UC Berkeley and now at ETH Zürich, Elisa kept working on the nuclear pore complex. She is particularly fascinated by compositional and functional differences between nuclear pore complexes in different cells and within single cells.
