Vamshidhar Gade
Vamshi did his PhD in the lab of Teymuras Kurzchalia at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) in Dresden, where he investigated the molecular mechanisms of cryptobiosis (hidden life) using C. elegans as a model organism. During his PhD he found that metabolic and biophysical adaptations render C. elegans and other nematodes capable of surviving extreme environments. Here in the Weis lab, he is trying to understand how genetic pathways and biophysical properties of the cytoplasm contribute to cell survival. He addresses this question using single particle tracking and advanced microscopy tools in cancer cell lines and embryonic stem cells.
