I developed my passion for studying protein structures during my undergraduate studies at Charles University in Prague. I followed this interest during my PhD in molecular biology at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB) in Prague, where I used X-ray crystallography to observe protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions. This work sometimes carried me away to the synchrotron in Berlin. To broaden my expertise, I transitioned from studying small compounds to exploring one of the largest protein complexes. In the Weis lab, I focus on understanding the initial steps of nuclear pore complex (NPC) assembly, specifically how the two nuclear membranes fuse to create space for the newly assembled NPC.
